Woolf Works Wednesday: Crowdfunding

Crowdfunding: What is it? Could it be useful for you and your business?

Join us for a unique Woolf Works Wednesday where we bring together an expert panel to discuss crowdfunding in Singapore and the advantages it can bring to the small business scene.

Joining us are Mouna Aouri from Woomentum, Carina Tan from Phoenix and Michelle Lye from Mopus. Full bios below.

We will as always have fabulous wine and food - with a glass of New Zealand wine on arrival from Underground Wines and healthy finger food care of Dianne at Be_!

Woolf Works Wednesdays are always a great way to meet the women (and men are also welcome!) of our wider community - we are a diverse and creative bunch! We are also a friendly bunch, please feel free to come along on your own or with a group of friends.

Mouna Aouri from Woomentum
Woomentum supports women in the most challenging phase of their entrepreneurial journey, the stage where it all becomes overwhelming: the transition from an idea to an actual business.
How do we make that happen? Through two ways:
1. Hercolab.com an expert-driven Q&A online community that connect female startups to female experts and professionals.
2. Crowdfundherlive.com a female crowdfunding platform that help women access funds to build their businesses.

Carina Tan from Phoenix
Before joining Phoenixict, Carina has been serving the social sector, advocating and raising funds for the causes she believes in. Driven by her passion for social rights and development, she led numerous events and supported national campaigns like ASEAN Para Games and Paralympics. With the gift of vigour and inventiveness, she implemented new and creative ideas to innovate the traditional fundraising model. She chanced upon crowdfunding while creating a cancer-awareness carnival and is confident that it can impact the greater community. Carina believes that crowdfunding is a game changer and One Crowd can change the landscape for a better world.

Michelle Lye and her campaign Tweeq

Michelle Lye is a product engineer at Mopus Works, where she builds open source software and hardware platforms for makers and engineers alike. When she’s not busy prototyping solutions for clients or training students in schools, she can be found tinkering around with electronics and being active in the maker scene in Singapore.

Tweeq is a micro-sized DIY electronics platform that allows anybody to create their own smart devices, from wearables to making things talk. Its tiny size and well thought out ecosystem is a fresh take and an elegant solution to a gap in the electronics market for helping makers take their projects to the next level.

Catering from Be!

Be! focuses on delivering healthy meals to corporates and individuals living and working from River Valley to the CBD area. The meals are put together with colour, fibre and protein in mind and we also strive to use ingredients that in low in glycemic index and free of artificial preservatives. I use a nutrition counter that gives a full pager on the usual nutritional value, plus another page on satiation factor, glycemic index and a list of detailed nutritional information.

For the athletes and those who need managed diets due to health conditions, strict adherence to nutritional data would be key to achieving the desired results. For the bulk of us who populate the middle of the bell curve, I aim to provide a sustainable, satiating, healthy meal. Simple rule of thumb " Don't count the calories. Make the calories count."

With Be _!, I set out to hire women from low income families in need of flexible working hours due to the lack of social support. At the same time, part of our revenue goes to the Girl Rising Campaign to increase awareness and provide healthcare and education for women in developing nations.
